Jako syndrom diabetické nohy (DN) je označován stav, kdy je přítomná patologie v oblasti nohy diabetika. Bývají postižené měkké tkáně, často i skelet nohy. Vzhledem k prevalenci a incidenci tohoto syndromu u diabetiků jde o závažný medicínský a společenský problém, kterému je v posledním desetiletí věnována velká pozornost. Potřeba dlouhodobé hospitalizace a vysoký počet amputací u diabetiků se syndromem diabetické nohy byly podnětem k zakládaní center kompexní péče o diabetickou nohu. K hlavním okruhům jejich zájmu patří realizace léčby a prevence diabetické nohy, doporučování praktických postupů a sociálně ekonomická problematika.
