Mnoho důležitých informací o genetické podstatě esenciální hypertenze by mohly v následujících letech přinést výzkumy v oblasti projektu poznání lidského genomu.

The genetics of essential hypertension

Hypertension is a common and increasing public health problem, prevalence of hypertension in adult population is between 20-25%. Essential hypertension is currently seen as a complex disorder caused by multiple susceptibility genes, gene-gene interactions and these interactions are modulated by environmental factors. Success in identifying susceptibility genes has been so far limited. By contrast, success been achieved in the past 5 years in molecular genetics of a number of familial hypertension syndromes. Complete understanding of the genetic basis of essential hypertension should be facilitated by using new strategies of the Human Genome Project.
