Na interní oddělení byla přijata mladá třicetiletá žena s podezřením na ileofemorální žilní trombózu pravé dolní končetiny. Devět dní před přijetím podstoupila operační výkon na krku femuru vpravo. Po operaci byla v dokumentaci popsána vysoká sedimentace erytrocyt, subfebrilní teploty do 37,8°C. Nemocná udávala tlakovou bolest pod i nad kolenním kloubem. Druhý den po operaci si všimla postupně narůstajícího otoku lýtka a kolem kolenního kloubu. Otok byl výrazně bolestivý, teplý. Nemocná popírala dušnost, neměla bolesti na hrudi, nekašlala.
