Obezita je závažné onemocnění, jehož komplikace významně zkracují délku života. Prevalence obezity v posledních desetiletích výrazně stoupá. Na jejím rozvoji se podílí řada faktorů, jako klíčová se jeví nerovnováha mezi příjmem a výdejem energie. Podíl geneticky podmíněných změn na vzniku obezity je však vysoký a uplatňuje se na různých úrovních regulačních a metabolických procesů. Léčba obezity je obtížná a vyžaduje celoživotní spolupráci pacienta, její výsledky se postupně zlepšují. Důležitá je prevence obezity.

Obesity - etiopathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment

Obesity is a serious disease and its complications significantly shorten life expectancy. Prevalence of obesity increases extremely in the last decades. Obesity development is caused by many factors, the key one is disbalance of energy intake and energy expenditure. Genetic factors influence individual reactivity at different levels of regulatory and metabolic processing. Obesity management is difficult and a long-life compliance of patient is necessary. Results of obesity treatment are improving. Obesity prevention is the crucial step in managing of pandemy of obesity.
