Diabetes mellitus with vascular complications

Diabetic vascular complications, both microvascular which includes diabetic nephropathy, retinopathy and neuropathy, and macrovascular which includes ischaemic heart disease, ischaemic disease of the lower extremities and ischaemic disease of central nervous systém, are the main reasons for the increased morbidity and mortality of diabetic patients. The author deals in the article with the microvascular and macrovascular complications of diabetes, especially from the point of early diagnosis in everyday practice and the possibilities for their treatment. In the key position in the prevention of the development of the vascular complications in diabetic patients is the optimal compensation of glycemia levels and the complex therapy of the accompanying metabolic disorders.
