Autoři v souhrnném sdělení uvádějí základní epidemiologické a prognostické údaje týkající se karcinomu plic v České republice. Seznamují čtenáře se základními morfologickými typy rakoviny průdušek, s novou histologickou klasifikací dle WHO z roku 1999 i s novou TNM klasifikací této choroby.

Autoři uvádějí v přehledu nejčastější symptomy choroby včetně paraneoplastických projevů a rizikové skupiny obyvatel, u kterých jsou nezbytné pravidelné kontroly. V přehledu jsou uvedeny diagnostické postupy i současné požadavky na vybavenost pracovišť, které se diagnostikou i terapií bronchogenního karcinomu zabývají. V přehledu jsou uvedeny škály pro hodnocení kvality života (Karnofského index, ECOG a AJCC stupnice). V tabulce jsou uvedeny základní algoritmy léčebných postupů u karcinomu plic.

Management of diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer - Part 1

The authors have done a survey of the essential epidemiological and prognostic data concerning lung cancer in the Czech Republic. They give information on the basic morphological types of bronchogenic carcinoma, the new histological classification from the year 1999 and the current TNM staging of this disease. The most frequent symptoms of the disease, including paraneoplastic syndromes, are well described, as well as the high risk groups of patients in whom regular check-ups are mandatory. The authors define the diagnostic procedures and current requirements for equiping departments which are engaged in the diagnosis and therapy of lung cancer. Scales for evaluation and quality life assessment (Karnofsky index, ECOG, AJCC scale) are shown further on. Basic algorithms of treatment management of lung carcinoma are outlined in the table.
