Práce se zaměřuje na problematiku častou ve vnitřním lékařství - váhový úbytek až kachektizaci. Autoři se snaží o přehled možných příčin vedoucích k tomuto stavu. Důvodem celkové alterace u naší pacientky byla kardiální kachexie, která byla zvažována jako jedna z možných příčin v rámci široké diferenciální diagnostiky. Původně plíživý nástup příznaků nemoci rychle progredoval a nemocná zemřela dříve, než bylo možné stanovit přesnou diagnózu a zahájit terapii. Jak potvrdila sekce - příčinou byla hemodynamicky závažná mitrální stenóza. Přes rozvoj kardiologie, a především kardiochirurgie, se s touto problematikou setkáváme i v současnosti.
