V článku je diskutována problematika vzniku jícnových varixů při portální hypertenzi, jejich možné ruptury s následným krvácením a možnosti léčby. Je podán přehled léčby akutního krvácení i možnosti primární a sekundární prevence.

Oesophageal varices in patients with liver cirrhosis

This article deals with the development of oesophageal varices in portal hypertension, their potential rupture and consequential bleeding, and the possible treatment modalities. A survey of the management of an acute bleed is given, and the possibilities for primary and secondary prevention are discussed.
