Diabetes mellitus je onemocnění se zvýšenou kardiovaskulární morbiditou a mortalitou. Incidence i prevalence diabetu, zejména 2. typu, neustále narůstá. Článek se zabývá problematikou postižení srdečního svalu diabetem a podává stručný souhrn subcelulárních, celulárních a tkáňových změn, které vedou ke zhoršení srdeční funkce.

Heart and diabetes mellitus

Diabetes mellitus is a disease with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Diabetes, type II especially, incidence and prevalence steadily increases. An article deals with problems of cardiac muscle affection due to diabetes and gives brief summary of subcellular, cellular and tissue changes, which lead to worsening of cardiac function.
