Incidence maligního melanomu narůstá, proto je třeba zlepšit prognózu daného onemocnění. Toho lze docílit nejen zlepšením terapeutických možností - imunoterapie a imunochemoterapie, ale také zavedením vyšetřování sentinelové uzliny jako standardního terapeutického postupu. Vyšetření sentinelové uzliny nám pomůže odhalit mikrometastázy, které nelze zjistit běžnými zobrazovacími metodami, a tím přesněji stanovit rozsah onemocnění a upřesnit léčebný postup.

Malignant melanoma - the sentinel lymph node evaluation

The effort to improve prognosis of malignant melanoma focuses not only to modern therapeutic modalities (immunotherapy, immunochemotherapy), but also to the new diagnostic procedure - the sentinel lymph node biopsy. The excision of the sentinel lymph node makes possible to detect micrometastatic nodal dissemination in patiens with clinically negative lymph nodes. The identification of early metastatic spread contributes to accuracy of melanoma staging, which helps to avoid extensive lymphatic dissection possibly associated with severe side-effects.
