Článek je určen pro praktické lékaře a ambulantní internisty, kteří bývají často prvními, kdo se s příznaky osteoartrózy (OA) u nemocného setkají. Časnou diagnostikou a léčbou mohou přispět ke zpomalení progrese onemocnění. Je podán přehled současných znalostí o OA. Přes pokroky farmakologické a nefarmalogické léčby jde o progredující onemocnění, které v konečných stadiích, zejména nosných kloubů, vyžaduje chirurgickou léčbu. Onemocnění je významným zdravotním a sociálně-ekonomickým problémem.

Osteoarthritis

This article is designed for general practitioners and ambulatory general medicine specialists, who are often the first ones encountering the signs of osteoarthritis (OA) in patients. With an early diagnosis and treatment, they may contribute to decrease the disease-s progression. An overview of present knowledge on OA is presented. Despite advances in the pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment, it is a progressive disease, which requires surgical treatment in final stages especially in supporting joints. The disease is an important medical and socio-economic problem.
