Klíšťová encefalitida (KE) je přírodně ohniskovou nákazou, která se vyskytuje na mnoha místech České republiky. Její výskyt je dán místními přírodními podmínkami a je proto rozprostřen po území mozaikovitě. Jednou z nejvýznamnějších oblastí výskytu KE a nákazy lidí ve střední Evropě je Jihočeský kraj. V tomto kraji je každoročně diagnostikována čtvrtina až třetina všech onemocnění.

V tomto sdělení se pokusím o pohled na toto onemocnění ze zorného úhlu nemocného: jaké obtíže přináší, jak ovlivňuje jeho schopnost vykonávat každodenní povinnosti a jak to v důsledku mění kvalitu jeho života.
