Alcohol and diabetes mellitus

Growing body of evidence of beneficial effects on cardiovascular disease of moderate alcohol drinking has drawn attention to its effects in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This article reviews current knowledge of the relationships between alcohol and T2DM incidence, coronary heart disease in diabetics, and insulin sensitivity.
