Výživa hraje důležitou roli při vzniku řady chronických neinfekčních nemocí hromadného výskytu včetně ovlivnění rizika vzniku vrozených vad. Existuje řada nemocí, u kterých lze uplatnit protektivní efekt výživy, především protektivní efekt vitaminů. V odborné literatuře 20. století se protektivním vlivem vitaminů zabývala celá řada studií s nejednoznačným výsledkem. V epidemiologických studiích, zaměřených na sledování vztahu spotřeby ovoce a zeleniny k riziku vzniku některých onemocnění, autoři prokázali pozitivní efekt adekvátního příjmu vitaminů.

Vitamins in pregnancy - benefit and risk

Nutrition plays one of the main roles in development of chronic non-infectious mass occurrence diseases. A lot of diseases exist in which we can apply protective effect of nutrition, especially protective effect of vitamins. We can mention here diabetes mellitus II, ischaemic heart disease and many other metabolic diseases. Many studies in professional literature of the start of the 21th century took interest in protective influence of vitamins, but with indefinite result. In epidemiological studies focused on observing the relation of fruit and vegetable consumption to the risk of cardiovascular diseases the authors showed positive effect of high fruit and vegetable income on significantly lower risk of cardiovascular diseases in given population.
