Lidské herpesviry jsou rozšířeny v populaci na celém světě. Charakteristickým obrazem herpesvirů je, že zůstávají v latentní formě po proběhlé primární infekci. Primární infekce je většinou spojena s dětským věkem. Většina klinických manifestací je spojena s reaktivací latentní infekce, např. opakované výsevy herpes simplex, zvláště pak herpesvirové infekce a jejich reaktivace u imunodeficientních jedinců. Herpetická infekce v průběhu těhotenství může způsobit závažné generalizované infekce u novorozence. Tato práce se zabývá nejběžnějšími klinickými manifestacemi herpesvirové infekce u lidí.

Herpesvirus Infection in Man

Herpesviruses which affect man occur ubiquitously in all populations throughout the world. It is a characteristic feature of herpesvirus that they generally remain in a latent form after clearance of the primary infection. Primary infections most commonly occur in childhood. The overall majority of clinical problems are related to activated latent infections, viz. recurrent lesions of herpes simplex, and in particular herpesvirus infections and reactivation in immunodeficient individuals. Herpes infection during pregnancy may result in severe generalised infection of the newborn. The review concerns the more common clinical manifestations of herpesvirus simplex infection in man.
