Inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer

Colorectal cancer represents serious complication of inflammatory bowel disorders (IBD), Crohn´s disease and ulcerative colitis. Colorectal cancer is associated with each sixth deaths in IBD patients. The authors in this review summarise the current opinion on the pathogenesis and early diagnosis dysplastic lesions and colorectal cancer. There are discussed risk factors which induce to the next development of dysplasia. The most important are: long term course of disease and extensive involvement of the large bowel. The extraordinary risk of colorectal cancer is asscociated with primary sclerosing cholangitis
