Preoperative evaluation and perioperative management of diabetic patients

MUDr. Hana Krejčí Ph.D
III. interní klinika VFN a 1. LF UK, Praha

Patients with diabetes mellitus have a higher rate of surgical procedures compared with the non-diabetic population. There is growing evidence that poor perioperative glucose control is associated with higher morbidity and mortality. The submitted text contains recommendations for preoperative evaluation of diabetic patients, preparation for the surgery and further management of diabetes during and after surgery.

Keywords: Key words: diabetes mellitus, preoperative evaluation, perioperative management.
