The selection of an optimal treatment strategy for patients with diabetes type 2 is based on basic knowledge of fasting and postprandial blood glucose level and glycosylated hemoglobin. Postprandial blood glucose level correlates very tightly with risk of cardiovascular events. The insulin treatment in patients of older age with diabetes type 2 can be applied in several various regimes that are selected according all associated aspects. Current insulin strategies provide safe and very effective therapy.
