Jaké je „zdravé“ množství alkoholu?

Podle Světové zdravotnické organizace v roce 2002 zemřelo pro příčiny související s alkoholem 600 000 Evropanů, tj. 6,3 % předčasných smrtí. Z uvedeného počtu zemřelých kvůli alkoholu bylo 63 000 osob ve věku 15–29 let (6). V Evropské chartě o alkoholu (2), která vznikla na půdě Světové zdravotnické organizace, stojí doslova: „Všichni lidé, kteří nechtějí nebo nemohou pít alkohol ze zdravotních či jiných důvodů, by měli být chráněni před nátlakem k pití alkoholu a mělo by se jim dostávat podpory při jejich odmítání alkoholu.“ Spotřeba alkoholu v České republice je ještě vyšší než ve většině evropských zemí. Nedává smysl doporučovat zde alkohol, když jeho spotřeba přesahuje 10 litrů 100% alkoholu na osobu za rok.
