Some specific nutrition requirements in the elderly people

In elderly people a physiologically adequate nutrition is essential for both the maintaining health and supporting quality of life. As nutrition and health status are related to the eating habit, the choice the food has to be accommodated to the changed body composition and altered physiological functions in seniors. They should be aimed for an increasing biological value and decreasing energy density of the foodstuff. The appropriate supplementation with micronutrients such as vitamin D, antioxidant vitamins and some minerals might be recommended to optimize the nutrition status in the population.
