International Classification of Headache Disorders recognizes primary and secondary type of headache. Primary headache has no
underlying organic or structural laesion and all the clinical investigations are normal. There are three main types of primary headache –
migraine, cluster headache and other trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias and tension-type headache and each has its specific treatment.
Secondary headache has its uderlying condition, either organic or structural intra-/extra-cerebral laesions or dysbalance of homeostasis
or administration/whithdrawal of various chemical agents. It is essential to differentiate between primary and secondary headache.
