Age related macular degeneration is the most common cause of blindness in developed countries. It is assumed that its prevalence will
incrementally grow with increasing age. The various forms of the disease, its incidence, prevalence, pathogenesis and risk factors leading
to its development are described in this review article. In view of the difficulty for this treatment, prevention including adequate
education and well-balanced nutrition which may prevent development of the disease are highlighted.
