The growth hormone deficiency in adulthood became a separate clinical entity in 1997. Then the growth hormone therapy gradually penetrated
into the clinical practice. Many questions was raised as for its effects despite increasing experience and length of time, of course.
As it turns out, not all of them have been fully answered, up till now. Anyway, appropriate selection of patients suitable for the growth hormone
therapy in adulthood should be strictly demanded. An original scheme under which it is possible to set up the appropriate replacement
dose to the patient exists. Recent years gradually have dissipated doubts stemming from the possibility of adverse consequences of longterm
growth hormone replacement in relation to the life expectancy provided we treat the patients with serious, in a way „symptomatic“
growth hormone deficiency and without obvious contraindications (active malignant disease, labile diabetes mellitus).
