Vocal professionals are persons who need a perfect function of their voice for their professional performance. The European phoniatric society recommends to differentiate the following groups according the quality of voice required:
1. Singers – soloists and choristers /requirement for the quality of voice is ultimate/
2. Actors, professional speakers, teachers
3. Judges, physicians, politicians, managers, clergymen
4. Vendors, newsboys.
The care for first two groups is very challenging and requires not only an experience with singing techniques, level of spoken voice, or assessment of voice stress. A fast adequate therapy is usually necessary, because these patients are presenting shortly before a performance when there is no time left for alternation. A primary care physician meets mostly the third and fourth group of vocal professionals the most frequent problem is as well as in the first two groups voice disorders caused by a combination of acute infection of upper airways and voice stress. The effective and early initiation of treatment by a primary care physician could prevent a transition to chronicity and complicated phoniatric problems.
