Most patients with diabetes, stroke and in elderly achieve good compensation of hypertension only using combination therapy. The most commonly used double combinations include diuretics + betalytics, diuretics + ACEI, diuretics + AT1 blockers, and ACEI + calcium channel blockers. Reactive forms of oxygen and other free radicals are formed in a human body in the course of biochemical processes continuously. Highly reactive forms of oxygen play an important role in antimicrobial protection of human organisms supporting killing of microorganisms during fagocytosis. Oxidative stress caused by free radicals takes part in protein, lipids and nucleic acid degradation. Oxidative stress is responsible for acceleration of atherosclerosis, degenerative diseases, carcinogenesis. Sufficient level of antioxidants in biological tissues plays a protective role.
