The article presents update in the area of dietology in diabetes mellitus. It discusses in detail 3 pathologic entities of metabolic syndrome: obesity, hyperlipoproteinemia and type II diabetes mellitus, because in this disease dietary therapy plays a key role. „A healthy weight“is stressed in modern dietology that is why the basics of application of physical activity are briefly discussed. Allergic rhinitis is the most frequent allergic disease afflicting respiratory system. It has strong negative impact on quality of life of patients and can couse several serious complications. Diagnose setting and plan of long-term therapy of allergic rhinitis should be made by both allergy and ENT specialists. Contrast media – induced nephropathy (CMIN) is an iatrogenic disorder, resulting from exposure to contrast media. With the growing number of diagnostic and interventional radiologic procedures in recent years, the prevalence of this order can be expected to increase.This article briefly tackles the currently known patophysiological mechanisms that lead to CMIN. Retention of fluid with congestion, hypervolemia, and volume overload of heart are regular components of syndrome of advanced heart failure. The principle of the diuretic effect is the increase of urine formation as a consequence of the interference with transport mechanisms of chlorides, sodium, potassium and water on the level of tubuli and collecting ducts in kidneys. The article discusses pathophysiological and clinical consequences of congestion, strategies of diuretic therapy and its influence on morbidity and mortality of patients with heart failure.

One of the most common endocrine diseases is primary hyperparathyrodism (PHPT). PHPT is generalized disturbances of calcium, phosphate and bone metabolism, which is caused by long time increased secretion of parathormone (PTH). PHPT is caused by increased production of PTH by adenoma of one or more parathyroid glands or by hyperplazia of parathyroid glands. Clinical picture of PHPT dramatically changed during the last years especially in states with high medical level duo to rutine estimation of calcemia, phosphatemia and iPTH. Mumps is an acute viral illness with fever, pain swelling of one or more salivary glands, especially parotid glands, less frequent manifestations include meningitis and orchitis in adolescents and men. Universal vaccination against mumps was started in the Czech Republic in 1987 year. Only sporadic cases and small local epidemics were observed in the period of 1997–2004 year. Epidemic spread of mumps started in the eastern part of the Czech Republic in 2005 year, till this time approximately 7 000 cases were observed. Most of cases are in the age group of 10–24 years; patients younger than 20 years were vaccinated against mumps in childhood.
